I started as a PHP developer, building CodeIgniter applications for small businesses in Kerala. Early on I noticed the same pattern on almost every project: the code worked fine, but the site was invisible on Google. Nobody on the team owned that gap.
So I closed it myself. I taught myself Technical SEO the same way I'd learned to code — by breaking things, reading logs, and fixing what was actually wrong rather than guessing. That combination, developer who also understands search, turned out to be rare and useful, especially as I started taking on clients in the UAE and wider GCC market.
When AI search — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — started reshaping how people find businesses, I treated it the same way I'd treated Google a decade earlier: not as marketing, but as an engineering problem. That's what GEO, AEO and AIO are to me now — the next layer of technical SEO, not a separate discipline.
What drives the work today is the same thing that drove it at the start: I want what I build to actually get found by the people it's for, not just to exist.
